Day 6: The world is in me

by Sara S. Nichols, religious science practitioner (RScP)

I'm working through round 2 of Deepak Chopra's "synchrodestiny" daily meditations from The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence. There's a different meditation each of 7 days, and then you rinse and repeat as needed. Get the book to really follow along. There's so much in it that I'm not going to cover.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: Shiva Shakti which means, I am not in the world, the world is in me.

I am both attracted and repelled by this notion. It comes at an odd time for me. Lately I have been working to pull back from the idea that I am responsible for the entire world. I have been focusing on establishing peace, harmony and prosperity in myself, so that I might share those gifts with others. But I don't think that Chopra's principle here is about taking responsibility for the world. It's more about knowing that everything I do and say affects everything else. It's about an awareness that I am connected to all I see.

A word about an aftershock I experienced from yesterday's Sutra regarding emotional freedom. I had a dream last night that I had this big physical ugly screaming fight with an old nemesis of mine and was running from him. I ran to escape his wrath and as I found my children and asked them to hide me, who should I run into but Don Perata (current leader of the California state Senate) whom I consider another problematic figure (long story which my children sum up with the phrase "she's persona non grata with Don Perata"). I woke up in terror with heart pounding.

As I was looking at the dream, I realized that perhaps what I was really fearing was my emotions about these guys (the guilt, fear, resentment) and not the men themselves. The truth is that once issuing the order to ban me from the office, Don Perata has probably not given me a second thought. I, however, have thought a lot about my banishment--I resent it. I think it's unfair. I don't deserve it.

This, my friends, is NOT emotional freedom. Thank you to my dreams for pointing out an area where I am still being chased.

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: imagine that you are both masculine and feminine, if you choose.

Day 5 (round 2--day 12 for me): Letting go of anger the destructive force

Day 5 Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: Moksha which means I am emotionally free.

Chopra talks about the different emotions and how they capture and enslave us. The most destructive, he argues, is anger. He says that venting anger can only make things worse, that it does not produce freedom. Anger is the most destructive emotion because it creates the illusion that we are separate from others instead of one. When we are angry, or vent anger, we literally tear the fabric of the universe, the whole cloth into which we are all woven.

Instead of venting anger, better to deconstruct it--break down the anger so that I can take personal responsibility for it. He has a couple of different exercises for this, both of which are good, but I really don't know a better one than that set forth in the 12 steps of Alcoholic's Anonymous.

Step 4 is to do a searching and fearless moral inventory. The classic "Big Book" way to do it is to identify the emotion, say anger, then put who you're angry with and briefly why you're angry. Then write out what this anger or resentment affects (my personal relations, pocketbook, sense of self, whatever). Then, and this is the most important part, what is my part in the resentment or anger? Where have I been self-seeking, selfish, dishonest or fearful.

IF I do this relentlessly with every bad emotion, it brings me true emotional freedom because the only thing that I can control is my part. I can't do anything about other people's parts. Nothing at all.

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: Imagine that you are free from blaming, free from feeling blame or guilt.

Day 4 (2nd round) Letting Go and Letting God

by Sara S. Nichols RScP

Day 4 Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: San Kalpa which means My intentions have infinite organizing power.

Reading more about this principle, the most important thing I take away from it today is "let go and let God." In other words, once I have set my intentions, I don't need to "do" anything about them. My intentions have infinite organizing power. Once they are set, all I need to "do" is to concentrate on conscious connection with the one infinite intelligence.

The two greatest tools I have for letting go are meditation and gratitude. I start my day with at least 20 minutes of meditation and I end it with writing a list of 20 things I'm grateful for.

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: Imagine that your intention is orchestrating the activity of the universe, counterbalancing the whole ecosystem.

Prosperity Prayer and My Peace

Hi Everyone,

Teri here. I thought I would share a Prosperity Prayer that Alma received from Joseph. Alma and I are working with this 2-3 times a day and while I don't have any big money miracles to report yet, I do feel much more peaceful. Actually peace is wonderful abundance and I am very grateful for it!

Dear God —

I surrender my financial affairs and concerns about money to your Divine care and love.

I ask that you remove my worries, anxieties and fears about money, and replace them with faith.

I know and trust that my debts will be paid and money will flow into my life.

I have only to look to nature to see proof of the abundance you provide.

I release all negative thoughts about money, and know that prosperity is my true state.

I commit to being grateful for all that I now have in my life.

I learn to manage my finances wisely, seeking help where needed.

And finally, I ask you to help me understand my purpose in life and to act on that purpose with courage and strength. I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love. Please help me use my skills and knowledge to be of service in the world.

Thank you, God.

Day 8: The ultimate reality

Cycling back to day 1 again (second time through) of Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: Aham Brahmasmi which means The core of my being is the ultimate reality, the root and ground of the universe, the source of all that exists.

If I am feeling out of touch with this principle today, I can use these sutra statements to center myself:

Imagine that the whole universe is being played out inside you
Imagine that you are connected to everything that exists
Imagine that you are eternal

Day 7: Accessing the Conspiracy of Improbabilities

Day 7 Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: Ritam which means I am alert, awake to coincidences and know that they are messages from God. I flow with the cosmic dance.

Chopra translates Ritam directly as "I am alert to the conspiracy of improbabilities."

I love this. It makes me think of another word, "pronoia" which is the belief that the universe is conspiring to shower you with blessings. Basically this principle builds on all the previous principles and is the whole point of this practice.

In identifying coincidences, our "nonlocal" intelligence (variously described as the unconscious mind) recognizes something of importance to us. Hence, there is no such thing as a "meaningless" coincidence. The mere fact that we notice something and label it a coincidence shows its meaning.

At any given point in our sensory field, we could choose to pay attention to any one of 100s of things. At this moment, I could pay attention to the noise of the shower my husband is taking, the crooked painting on the wall, the old teabag left in a saucer on the table, the wind moving the trees outside, my son getting himself a snack or the slight ache on the right side of my neck. I choose, instead, to pay attention to the computer on my lap, on which I am composing this post. If I choose to pay attention to any particular thing and notice that it "coincides" with something else in my consciousness, that is because for whatever reason that item is important to my subsconscious or nonlocal mind.

The goal of the synchrodestiny work is to follow this trail of breadcrumbs to my good. To notice where I am going and the many ways in which I am supported at all times. To relax and enjoy the journey.

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: Imagine that you are a contribution to the world.

Of course you are!

Day 6: I am giving birth to the gods and goddesses inside me

Day 6 Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: Shiva-Shakti which means I am giving birth to the gods and goddesses inside me; they express all their attributes and powers through me

The basic concept on this one is that I embrace both the masculine and the feminine and all the faces of God and they can all express themselves through me.

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: Imagine that you are an enlightened being with infinite compassion.

Which is totally easy for me, as long as I have no interactions with anyone. Well, actually, then I'd feel guilty. It's impossible (but to be striven for!).

Day 5: I am emotionally free

Day 5 Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: Moksha which means I am emotionally free.

What could be better than this one? This is really about letting go of all resentment and fear. Chopra talks about how all people naturally want to avoid pain (commonly expressed as fear) and go towards pleasure (love). If life is a river and one bank is pain and one is pleasure, Chopra says we should aim for the middle of the river, neither strongly veering towards pleasure (addiction) or pain (no enjoyment of life). And anger is the most destructive of all emotions, renting the fabric of human existence, the knowledge that we are all one.

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: Imagine that you are free from blaming, free from feeling blame or guilt.

Which is totally easy for me, as long as I have no interactions with anyone. Well, actually, then I'd feel guilty. It's impossible (but to be striven for!).

Thursday, Synchrodestiny, Day 4

Day 4 Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: San Kalpa which means My intentions have infinite organizing power.

This is really more about how all thought is creative and influential. While yesterday's Sutra seemed to be focussed on the internal. This is where you see what happens in the external world as a result of your intentions. Yesterday's Sutra was the seed, here is the connection to the plant

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: Imagine that your intention is orchestrating the activity of the universe, counterbalancing the whole ecosystem.

Oh, is that all? NOOOOO problem.

Wednesday, Synchrodestiny, Day 3

Day 3 Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his amazing book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: Sat Chit Ananda which means My inner dialogue reflects the fire of my soul.

To put this in Science of Mind (by Ernest Holmes) terms, all thought is creative and influential. So, as my minister Rev. Georgia Prescott (Center for Spiritual Awareness in West Sacramento) says, "we need to be careful what and how we think."

Most importantly, for Deepak Choprah, is a focus on staying God-centered, internally focussed, rather than focussed on the external.

His exercise for this Sutra is whenever you look in the mirror to say to yourself:

1) I am totally independent of the good and bad opinions of others
2) I'm beneath no one.
3) I'm fearless in the face of any and all challenges.

Frankly, this exercise scares the hell out of me. But that, I've found, means I need it. I'll never be fearless, but I can turn and face my fear.

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: Imagine that all beings are your equal.

Tuesday, Synchrodestiny Day 2

Day 2 Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his amazing book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence.

After meditating for 20 minutes using the "so hum" breathing technique (breath in through your nose thinking "so" and out through your nose thinking "hum") I focussed on today's principle: Tat Tvam Asi which means I see the other in myself and myself in others.

Actually, I like the direct translation better, I am that. How useful this is. If I look at everyone and everything as a mirror, I get so much information about myself. And I learn how absolutely vital compassion is to daily living.

I did the exercise he has in the book where you list 10 good qualities of a person you admire and the 10 qualities of a person you hate. Then 3 bad qualities for the person you admire and 3 good ones for the person you hate. Then you circle the 3 best and the 3 worst and write those on a separate page. Ouch! Those are all qualities that I myself embody.

The other exercise is good for every single day. Whenever I see someone, I silently look them in the eyes and say namaste which means "the god in me, recognizes the god in you." It makes it impossible to stay in separation.

If things are challenging today, here is a Sutra statement: Imagine that you can feel what others feel.

Monday--Synchrodestiny exercise Day 1 by Sara S. Nichols RScP

Hi. Starting today, I'm starting to do Deepak Chopra's daily meditations on how to discover your "Synchrodestiny" out of his amazing book, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence. You need to get the book to follow along on the full program, I'll just write on today's principle and what I get out of it.

Since I'm doing them, I thought I'd write about them each day and invite you to do them with me. I recommend you start on day 1, but you can start that any day. The meditations are supposed to bring you into closer contact with the One Source and to allow you to harnass your energy so that you begin to attract and notice all the information that is in your surroundings, the clues that lead you like a trail of bread crumbs to your ultimate life's purpose.

Choprah has a couple of exercises to help me get more in touch with this principle. I did this one today, takes 10 minutes. Sit with a piece of paper in front of you and ask yourself Why am I here?, then write down whatever comes (no big thinking, just grab a fragment of it). Ask it again and write down what comes. Do this over and over again 20 times.

I did this and I got 17 unique things and 3 times I got (1st, 10th and 20th times) "to love and be loved." It is very calming and helpful to remind this to myself.

If I am feeling out of touch with this principle today, I can use these sutra statements to center myself:

Imagine that the whole universe is being played out inside you
Imagine that you are connected to everything that exists
Imagine that you are eternal

The Truth Is In Us

The truth about us is that the truth is in us. Truth is an experience. It is not something we learn. In fact we must unlearn to get to the truth. Peel away your faulty thinking and misperceptions and you will find the truth about you. You are what you are seeking. Your being is a field of intelligence beyond the scope of your limited rational mind and preconceived notions of reality.

To access your truth you must pierce the veil of unreality to get to the core of your being. Your being is a field of unlimited energy and infinite possibility. You are a universe unto yourself. The way to awaken to this fact is to look within. Everything you need is inside of you. You're the power. Stop seeking your identity and knowledge through people, places, and things. These things are all of the ego.

The law of attraction is much more than wishing for cars and money. When you align with the truth of your being, you will enter the flow. Life becomes effortless. You are given what you need. All you must do is surrender to the flow and ask. Open yourself up to the field and your world will become limitless. Life becomes your playing field. Instead of reacting to the dream, you are creating it.

Trust By Teri West, Producer, The Truth About Us

I heard from someone today that is facing bankruptcy and the loss of his home and marriage. Needless to say, he is depressed even if he is trying not to be. I started to think about the key to creating something else when we are in these challenging places. I believe that we have to first honor the feelings of fear, loss and depression, as well as to look at our situation clearly with no denial, otherwise our subconscious is happily creating everything we are in denial of. So we look at it and feel it; but, we cannot FOCUS on the negative feelings or the situation. We have to focus on our belief that all is well so that all will be well. We focus on what we want to create. A challenge, but it can be done.

When I look backwards, I can SEE that each challenging period brought its own rewards and I have always been able to create something new......relationships that ended brought knowledge and experience to create better relationships; jobs and businesses ending brought needed and deserved rest and the renewal to create new ways to make money that fit the new me.

It's easy to believe in the benevolence of the Universe when things are going well; but we really understand the benevolence of the Universe when we are scared and depressed but overcome that state to remember that we are creators and always have been. Looking back and seeing how much I have learned from past challenges and the positive results helps me Trust. I have always been fine even in my darkest times and I always will be fine. That is the Truth About Me. In this trusting state, I can focus on what I want to create for myself instead of my negative feelings or situation.

Make it a great day today...................

Beyond Law of Attraction - by Angela Usher

Hello good people-

I am honored to be asked to contribute to this Blog. I have been kicking around some thoughts in my head and thought maybe I would share them. I have been realizing that my life is running even more smoothly now than it did a year ago (when The Truth About Us was filmed) - and heck I was pretty happy a year ago. I have been trying to figure out what is changing for me, besides the fact that all of it is always changing.

I look back over the last year and I would say that in April of 2007 I started gaining another perspective on the "Law of Attraction" (LOA). I am beginning to really understand that LOA just scratches the surface - it is the proverbial tip of the spiritual ice berg - and that a deeper, more consistent ideology is bubbling up within me. I have been able to simplify it like this: My attitude equals my life.

Attitude = Life. I could use that statement as an affirmation or a mantra that I keep reminding myself. And on days when I am having a struggle or a hard time, I do need it as an affirmation. However, on a day-to-day basis, it is an ongoing meditation of the core of my being:
My attitude = my life.

When I learned about the Law of Attraction, in August 2006, and I began to apply it to my life - I experienced great results. I felt that I was given a tool that reminded me that I had the staring role to play in my own life and my choices were the key. That I get to decide what mood I am in, what perspective I have, and what actions I want to take. It was so liberating.

But the dark side, for me, was that LOA was also very "rewards/punishment" based. If I could just work LOA "right" I would come out winning every time. That the Universe was truly saying "yes!" to me if I got whatever thing I wanted and that if I didn't get what I was wanting, it meant I wasn't doing it right. That my "wants" were what really mattered, not as much as the person wanting the stuff. The focus of LOA for me was; what is coming to me and how quickly? LOA was feeding my narcissism, but it was also giving me an excuse to be passive about what I wanted.

As an example, I had wanted to achieve a healthy body, and build a stronger bank account. I knew about LOA for a year and yet I was 10 pounds heavier than when I started, and I had more debt than in any other time of my life. How could this be? I guess I wasn't doing it "right". I may have even put the price of yet another Law of Attraction course on my credit card, or upped my contribution to the church in an effort to "prove" to the Universe that I really wanted some change to happen.

Then in June of 2007 my Soul said to me, 'You want to get healthy? You need to take daily action steps. You want to have a strong bank account? You take daily action steps. You are the only one capable of changing yourself. The Universe will support you in your actions - even when they are hard (like letting go of sugar, and not buying more "stuff").' So I began to let go of LOA as a guiding principle (I still believe in LOA - I just know that there is something deeper at work), and I started to believe in this: positive attitude + daily action = change. As Rev. Michael Beckwith once said, 'There will always be some type of "pain" in your life, but you get to choose. Will it be the pain of self-discipline or the pain of regret?'

Additionally, I have learned that my inspiration comes from listening to and following my heart and my genius comes from staying focused. Both inspiration and genius are intrinsic to who each of us truly is. I don't know about you, but I have been hugely blessed in my life. Because of all my resources, I can handle the pain of self-discipline, plus the results are amazing and delightful.

Thanks for entertaining my ramblings- Angie

P.S. Now for some homework: Today, find one person, ideally a stranger, and give them a meaningful compliment. For example, the guy stocking the shelves where you buy groceries - "thank you for all your hard work that makes it so I can come into a clean and organized store". People love getting compliments, but what you will find is that the compliment you give feels even better to you for having given it. This goes beyond feeling gratitude, this is sharing gratitude with another. And you know this, because you have done it before - but this time give yourself to permission to begin to live through your acts of gratitude - the transforming impact on your attitude is priceless. Attitude = Life. Many Blessings all the time.

I had no Idea!

I had no Idea that God had hidden his self within my heart, I had searched all my life for God, in relationships of all kinds, in drugs, in alcohol, in anything out side myself for completions. And all the time the treasure I had looked for was with me. I finally understand why Jesus the Master teacher said Heaven is within. It is a place within me that no matter the condition or circumstance I can find peace.

What is Truth for Me?

I know it is the beauty of the earth,
I know it is the songs sung by birds,
I know it is the fragrance of the flowers,
It is the earth, damp, solid and immovable,
It is the sky, with its limitlessness,
It is life, with all the love, joy and sadness.
It is what is,
All that is,
All that Isn't,
It is you,
And it is me.

Believing It: We are Whole, Perfect and Complete By Teri West, Producer, The Truth About Us

If I choose, I can focus on my faults and shortcomings. I have several, as most of us do. I find that the days that I make that choice are pretty miserable as the 'Inner Critic' has been given free reign and feels it necessary to create an inner dictation in my mind that lists the shortcomings over and over and over.

Today, I choose to focus on my success. The ways that I am beautiful and loving to those around me. My accomplishments. My desires. I SEE that I am Whole, Perfect and Complete. My 'Inner Critic' says, no you're not--you have all those shortcomings! Yes, I do have shortcomings, but that doesn't change the fact that I am Whole, Perfect and Complete just as I am. I am the image of God, how could that not be perfect? Recognizing that, I am strengthened to love myself, love others, enjoy my day. If I can do this daily, the beautiful, loving and successful part of me grows. It continues to grow until those shortcomings either disappear, or become so irrelevant that they may as well disappear.

Choose to see yourself as great today and you will have a great day!

We are enough by Sara S. Nichols, RScP

The truth about us is that we are enough. We are smart enough, cute enough, wealthy enough, thin enough, and most of all loveable enough just as we are (and dammit, people like us!). Yet, ironically, the new thought movement is filled with people who got into it because they came to believe that something was lacking in their lives.

I have spent many years lamenting my many faults, beating myself up for all the ways in which I fall short. I started my strong pursuit of a spiritual path because I wanted to improve, my looks, my wealth, my relationships, my health, my treatment of others--everything!

What I found out is that I am whole, perfect and complete exactly as I am right now. That the way to greater love, money, health and joy is through gratitude for what I already have.
